Braun Sheffield Sharks expressing their talents on the highest stage that British basketball has to offer. A day of high drama and a rollercoaster of emotions. Pre-Game

The preliminaries are underway as the crowd begins to swell. The Sharks fans up in the gods go nuts waving their flags and inflatables. Tension and anticipation is rising. The Cup Final is almost upon us!

First Quarter

9.05 Jalen Ray lays in for the 89ers to get things underway.

8.25 Jamell Anderson for 3!!! The Nottingham lad kick starts things for the Sharks. 3-4.

5.35 Josh Steel finds success from the corner for 3 ending a fired-up couple of minutes for Surrey. Rodney Glasgow Jr comes in for the Sharks to provide some inspiration. 7-12.

4.02 Prentiss Nixon forces it home one-handed as the inflatables get an airing. Great atmosphere.

2.46 Jordan Ratinho knocks down a triple on the angle – the crowd give him a rendition of his theme tune.

1.38 It’s Jacob Groves’ turn this time. His three brings the upper tier to their feet.

35s The skipper Rodney Glasgow drains that lovely mid-ranger as the trades continue. 21-21.

1s Donovan Clay concludes the quarter – the teams can’t be separated at 23-23.

Second Quarter

8.56 Cameron Gooden gets the Surrey faithful on their feet with a three point jump shot to inch the Niners in front.

5.29 James Reese V makes his mark on the big stage with a huge trey that brings about a massive round of applause from the whole arena. 36-35.

3.20 The sides continue to trade as defence is largely forgotten. Mervin James breaks the spell, spinning to the hoop for an and-one. The small but vocal Surrey contingent show their appreciation. 42-44.

1.22 It’s J Rat from the top of the key – another outing for the theme tune from the SharkNation.

1.10 Rickey McGill does what Rickey McGill does, effecting a neat steal and putting the Sharks back into the lead at 49-48. ‘Defence’ is the cry from the Sharks section!

14s Mervin James concludes the first half with three on the angle as Surrey head to the locker rooms up by 49-51. Wonder what the half time discussion is going to be about?

Third Quarter

8.09 The trades continue. Donovan Clay’s lay-up keeps the sides inseparable at 53-53.

7.26 Surrey commit a backcourt violation – Is this the Sharks chance?

7.19 Prentiss Nixon seizes the moment with an effortless triple. The upper tier rise once again.

5.43 He’s done it again! Donovan Clay kicks out to Nixon to make it 66-57. Have the Sharks created a gap?

4.29 McGill makes the tough finish in traffic for the and-one as the Sharks go up by double digits – 71-61.

2.52 Great steal and highlight dunk by James Reese V. He’s really risen to the occasion.

1.06 Surrey aren’t down yet. Tayo Ogedengbe knocks down the triple as the gap becomes four.

13s Prentiss is fouled and cool as you like drops all three from the charity stripe as the third comes to an end at 81-72.

Fourth Quarter

9.02 They’re on a roll now! James Reese makes his second big steal and dunk of the game as Surrey go and think it over. 85-72

7.10 The timeout has the desired effect for the Niners as Tayo and James reply quickly.

4.35 Jamell Anderson makes the three ball off the screen and the Sharks are back up by 10.

2.00 He’s showing out for his home crowd now. Another conversion for Anderson after Clay and Adelekun back each other down. 98-87.

1.42 The vet Ogedengbe has downtown success. Could there be a twist in this one yet?

51s Donovan Clay makes the difficult finish for the and-one play. ‘Sharks are on fire!’ resonates from the crowd. 101-92.

12s McGill goes coast to coast for Clay to dunk. Could either of these two be MVP?

4.1 Rickey don’t miss from the line – facts. Two more. He raises his hands to the Sharks faithful – we are SLB Cup winners by 105-97!

Post Game

The excitement is palpable as the traditional ‘storming of the court’ takes place – tremendous scenes!

Donovan Clay takes the MVP honours for his 23 point, 9 rebound, 4 assist, 2 block display with big contributions from Rickey McGill (24) and Prentiss Nixon (24).

The Sharks have reached every top flight Cup Final at their first attempt – and now they can add 2025 winners to the list!
