Super League Basketball Championship

A change from the usual match night for the B. Braun Sheffield Sharks but a very important fixture nonetheless. On Saturday night, the league leading London Lions come to the Canon Medical Arena for another monster match-up of SLB Championship basketball. The Lions, under interim Coach Vytautas Pliauga, sit comfortably at the top of the standings with a 15-3 record following victory over Leicester Riders in their last Championship fixture. It’s March and the madness is starting to begin! Time for a thrilling showcase of top class British basketball.

Ones To Watch

Chaundee Brown Jr – Missed just one shot all evening as the Lions claimed that big 95-78 victory over the Riders. Finished with 18 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal at an 87% clip.

Aaryn Rai – Player who defies categorisation but is playing a slightly different role for the Lions this season. A perfect shooting night saw him close with 8 points, 10 boards and 2 assists against the Riders.

Amin Adamu – Another who demonstrated the London ruthless streak, going perfect from 2, 3 and the line to finish with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists as the Lions marched on at the top of the table.

Deane Williams – Fully deserved recent GB call-up following some tidy displays for the Lions as their skipper. Season numbers of 8.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists don’t really do his importance justice.

Shark Bites

London Lions have won 8 of their last 9 games against the Sharks and have an impressive 4 wins 1 loss record at the Canon Medical Arena. Sharks last loss at home on a Saturday was almost 7 years ago , on 4th May 2019 against Newcastle.

Prentiss Nixon made his debut for the Sharks on 9th November 2023 at home to Surrey. He is due to play his 99th game for the Sharks at home to London on Saturday. In his first 98 appearances, Prentiss has managed to score 20 or more points in 20 games, topped off by his memorable 39 point haul at Cheshire.

In the Sharks last game, Joe Anderson of Bristol scored 15 points in the second quarter but added nothing in the other three periods of play. Exactly 4 weeks earlier on the same court, Nick Kern Jr did exactly the same thing, scoring all his 15 points in the second quarter!
