The DBL Sharks are delighted to announce the signing of 6’1” point guard Sedale Hanson Young formerly of Birmingham City Basketball Club and Cheshire Jets.
The Birmingham born guard recently returned from the United States where he played at Notre Dame prep school before returning to the UK to attend University in the UK for personal reasons.
The opportunity to steal Hanson Young from competition came with the offer to complete his degree at Sheffield Hallam University whilst picking up the position of a back up point guard for the Sharks.
“I know Sedale from his younger days and he is a very controlled player at the point, he looks to distribute the ball and he is a great team player,” said Coach Lyons. We are excited to welcome him to the Sharks for the foreseeable future he will be a great asset for this team and he is a good character so will fit very well.”
Sedale, son of Nigel Hanson, former Sharks assistant coach and Head Coach at Team Birmingham, is looking forward to the challenge at Sheffield.
“I am excited to be here, Sheffield has always been a strong club in the BBL and I believe I will get a great opportunity playing for Coach Lyons,” said Hanson Young. “I am looking forward to playing for both the Sharks and Sheffield Hallam University where possible and help bring some silverware back!”
The Sharks will be playing the Newcastle Eagles this Friday in a pre-season friendly at the EISS, tickets are available via Amanda.hutt@thesheffieldsharks.com.
“This will be a good test for us, we have not yet totally filled the roster we are looking for one more piece, the final piece will be made when I am happy that player as a contributor and a fitting character,” stated Coach Lyons.
