Super League Basketball Championship

It is back to work for the B. Braun Sheffield Sharks who return to action with a busy double-header weekend. On Friday, they head south west to the SGS College Arena where a revitalised Bristol Flyers await, having recently climbed to third in the Championship table. Then on Sunday, there is a swift rematch with Cheshire Phoenix, where it is to be hoped that basketball is the main talking point given that these two sides are undeniably talented and fiercely competitive. Two big games for the Sharks, who will be looking to return to winning ways as we start to enter the business end of the campaign.

Ones To Watch

Zach Anderson – Has been a key part of the Bristol renaissance as demonstrated by his 20 point, 7 rebound outing against Manchester last week. Shot 77% from the field in the road win.

Joseph Anderson – Busy point guard who impacts the game in a variety of ways for the Flyers. A very impressive statline of 18 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal in the 80-85 win over Manchester last Friday.

Cam Holden – A rare position-fluid player who is influential all over the court. Weighed in with 13 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal and a blocked shot up in the North West.

Darnell Brodie – Used his presence well at Centre to contribute 14 points, 6 boards, an assist and a steal in the Manchester victory. Pulls down 5.7 boards for the season to date.

Ones To Watch

Patrick Robinson – 22 points for the lefty, who shot 7 of 8 inside in the ‘Nix road win at Caledonia last week. Also dished out 6 assists and was a thorn in the Sharks’ side in their last encounter.

Jaxon Brenchley – Goes under the radar somewhat for Cheshire but contributed to an effective inside display for Ben Thomas’ side with 21 points and 6 rebounds in the 76-101 win north of the border.

Frankie Policelli – Cheshire’s best performer from deep last week with 4 makes on his way to 14 points and 6 rebounds against the Gladiators. Averaging 11.8 points per game for the season.

Matthew Zona – Another of the Phoenix bigs who is very capable of shooting the three. Hit the target three times from downtown up in Scotland for 13 points overall and to see his side secure in second place in the SLB Championship.

The Sharks and the Flyers meet on Friday with 10 of the last 12 games between the clubs having been won by the home team. The Championship series between the teams this season is currently tied at one win apiece; Flyers holding a basket difference of 147-136.

In contrast to the recent free scoring of the Sharks – last ten games totalling 100, 83, 77, 106, 88, 101, 90, 89, 68 and 98 – the most recent ten visits to the SGS College Arena have seen the Sharks score 60, 64, 74, 88, 76, 65, 76, 55, 75 and 72.

A combined total of 203 points in Sharks recent home loss to Cheshire is the most total points in a Sharks home game since 29th October 2010 – a 106-116 overtime loss to Newcastle.
