Super League Basketball Trophy Group Stage

After a thrilling road win last Sunday, the B. Braun Sheffield Sharks are back at the Canon Medical Arena for another huge Trophy game against Caledonia Gladiators. The astonishing exploits of Prentiss Nixon rightly earned him a Team of the Week berth for his 39 points against Cheshire and the Sharks will be looking for similar inspiration to defeat Gareth Murray’s Gladiators. The two teams won one apiece in pre-season but now the season proper is here, another mouth-watering game is on the cards. And what’s more, you can see two games for the price of one with the B. Braun Sheffield Hatters taking on Manchester Basketball at 1pm!

Ones To Watch

Patrick Whelan – The former Leicester guard was at his sharp-shooting best in guiding the Glads to an 87-91 road win in Manchester last Sunday. He made 4 three point shots on his way to a game-high 22 with 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals in an all-round display.

Trevond Barnes – Newcomer to the Caledonia forward line whose 15 points aided the win in the North West. Shot 9 of 10 from the charity stripe as the Gladiators moved to 2-1 in the Trophy Group Stage.

Tanner Stuckman – Possibly Caledonia’s standout of the early season so far. Already averaging 8 boards per game and added another 8 to go with 14 points on 6 of 9 shooting in the Manchester success.

Princeton Onwas – It isn’t always about numbers with the Caledonia returnee. Does the intangibles and often comes up with a key play that hands his side an advantage. Not to be slept on.

Shark Bites

The Sharks win at Cheshire last Sunday was the 140th clash between the clubs and the first ever where both teams reached 100 points in the game.

The 39 points in the game by Prentiss Nixon made him just the 5th player to score that many for the Sharks under Coach Atiba Lyons, but only the 3rd to reach that figure without overtime.

The 28 second half points scored by Prentiss was more than any Sharks player has scored in a full 40 minutes since Sa’eed Nelson made 33 on 25th September 2022 – Sa’eed had the advantage of double overtime!

Since Glasgow Rocks changed to become the Caledonia Gladiators, there have been 10 games between the Sharks and the Scottish franchise with the Gladiators holding a 7-3 advantage in that time. A total of 115 games in all competitions have taken place between the clubs with the Sharks prevailing 73-42 overall.
