Sheffield, UK - 5th August, 2024 - The B. Braun Sheffield Sharks announce the signing of Jacob Groves for the 2024-25 Super League Basketball season.
The 23-year-old American joins the Sharks for his first professional basketball season. The Spokane, Washington native graduated from the University of Virginia this year, having also previously played for the Oklahoma Sooners and Eastern Washington Eagles during his college career. Groves, a 6’9” forward, went 45.9% from the 3-point line during the NCAA D1 2023-24 season with Virginia, whilst averaging 7.4 points and 2.8 rebounds per game.
Jake is looking forward to beginning his professional career in Sheffield, “I’m thrilled to have signed for the Sharks for my first season in professional basketball. I’ve heard great things about the team as well as the city so I can’t wait to get started. The Canon Medical Arena looks like a great facility and I’ve seen the fans can really generate an atmosphere at the games, so I’m looking forward to playing in front of the fans”.
Sharks Head Coach Atiba Lyons spoke of his excitement with the signing of Groves, stating “Jake will be a fantastic addition to the squad for this season. He’s a great shooter but also has many other attributes that really excite me too. I’m sure the fans will love his skill and energy, and will give him a warm welcome to Sheffield once the season gets underway. His experience in high level college basketball will stand him in good stead for what I’m sure will be an exciting season of Super League Basketball”.
