Sheffield, UK - 17th August, 2024 - The B. Braun Sheffield Sharks announce the signing of E.C Matthews for the 2024-25 Super League Basketball season.
The 28-year-old 6’5” guard who hails from Michigan, USA joins the Sharks for the new Super League basketball season. Matthews has vast experience across the United States, Europe, and Africa after graduating from Rhode Island in his 5 year collegiate career. He began his professional playing career in Finland in 2018-19, and then played the following season in the NBA G League for Erie BayHawks and Raptors 905 in the 2019-20 season.
E.C has also played professionally in Portugal, Angola, Mexico, Iceland, Spain, Macedonia, Czechia and the Dominican Republic. In the 2023-24 season with KK Feniks in Macedonia, Matthews averaged 13.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
E.C is looking forward to joining the Sharks, “I’m excited to sign in Sheffield and continue my career overseas. I have a lot of experience and I feel I can use that to good effect with the Sharks and the new roster. I’ve seen the arena and the fanbase in Sheffield and I’m really excited to play in that environment”.
Sharks Head Coach Atiba Lyons spoke of his excitement with the signing of Matthews, stating “E.C is a real professional who has good experience overseas as well as the states, which will be a valuable asset to us this season. He can shoot from range and has a great touch around the basket so will bring another dimension to our offence. I’m looking forward to having EC with the team”.
