Donovan Clay Returns to Sheffield

Sheffield, UK - 15th July, 2026 - The B. Braun Sheffield Sharks announce the signing of Donovan Clay for the 2026-27 Super League Basketball season. 

The 25-year-old 6’8” forward, hailing from ​​Alton, Illinois, USA, returns to the B. Braun Sheffield Sharks for the 2026-27 season after previously representing the club during the 2024–25 campaign. Clay was a fan favourite during his time in Sheffield, and was named Super League Basketball Cup Final MVP as the Sharks defeated the Surrey 89ers at the Nottingham Motorpoint Arena on 9th March 2025 to claim Sheffield’s most recent title. 

Donovan spent the 2025-26 season in Japan’s B3 League for Tokyo Hachioji Trains. Over their 38 game season, Clay averaged 13.1 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists. During the 2024-25 Super League Basketball season in Sheffield, Donovan averaged 13.9 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists after joining the club in November 2024 having started the season in Greece with Aris in EuroCup.   

Donovan is looking forward to returning to the Sharks for 2026-27, “I’m really excited to be back in Sheffield this season. I have such great memories from my first spell at the club. Atiba, the coaching staff and the management at the Sharks are a big factor in my decision to return; the belief they have shown in me and their plans for the season made it an easy choice to make. Of course, playing in front of the amazing Sharks fans at the Canon Medical Arena will be special to experience again and I can’t wait to get the season started.”

Sharks Head Coach Atiba Lyons stated “Donovan had a fantastic season with us in 2024-25 and his efforts were rewarded with the MVP honours in the Cup Final. He is a player who understands what I expect from my team and what it means to play for this club. He had another strong season in Japan and returns to us even more experienced, so I’m excited to see Donovan back in Sheffield for 2026-27.”
