The B Braun Sheffield Sharks are very happy to announce the first commitment of the 2020-21 campaign, long serving Captain Mike Tuck has signed a 1-year contract extension into his 12th season with the Sharks.
The announcement was uniquely made via a Sharks Facebook Live stream at 7:30pm on Wednesday evening, where the Sharks GameDay Announcer, Mike Shaft, revealed Tuck and then proceeded with a short interview.
The Toronto, Canada native and dual passport holder joined the club way back in 2009 and has won 4 major pieces of silverware with the club including 2 back-to-back BBL Cups (2010,2011), the 2013 BBL Trophy, and the 2016 BBL Playoff Final which he was awarded Most Valuable Player.
Sharks GM Sarah Backovic and the Yorkshire side are thrilled to see the veteran back on floor.
“Tuck is part of the fabric here in Sheffield. We are so pleased to have him back. His leadership and example help drive this team. Also, his work within the front office as Marketing Manager are integral.”
Settled in his veteran role Tuck showed flashes of youth this season with season highs of 22 points v Newcastle Eagles in October and 8 rebounds v Eagles in March while shooting a career high 42.4 % from the 3-point line in the BBL Championship.
The 37-year-old Tuck is excited about the contract and looking forward to seeing the rest of the team form.
“I still can’t believe I am going into my 12th season as a Shark, it feels like I just arrived yesterday. Sheffield is a great place and feels like home. The club, the front office, the fans, the city, have always been warm and welcoming to me. I’m excited to get back going, especially with how things ended last season due to COVID-19.”
The search continues in the background as Head Coach Atiba Lyons is in recruitment mode for the 2020-21 roster.
“It’s great to have Tuck back to start building that solid foundation. We are in conversation with quite a few players and I feel that we will be able to piece together an extremely strong unit with some key players heading into next season.”
