The B Braun Sharks are very proud to announce Callum Jones as the fifth commitment for the upcoming 2020-21 BBL season.
The announcement was uniquely made via a Sharks Facebook Live stream at 7:30pm on Wednesday evening, where the Sharks GameDay Announcer, Mike Shaft, revealed Jones and then proceeded with a short interview.
34-year-old, Jones makes the trip to Sheffield across the Pennines after spending the last 8 seasons with the Manchester Giants.
Sarah Backovic the Sharks General Manger is pleased with the acquisition.
“When Callum became available, we jumped on the opportunity. He comes from a strong basketball pedigree and is a proven player in this league with loads of experience.”
The 6’4 guard has played 10 seasons in the BBL (8 with the Manchester Giants and 2 with the Worcester Wolves). At the international level he has represented England alongside Sharks Captain Mike Tuck at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and as junior played Euros U16 and U18 winning ‘Player of the Year’ in both groups.
“I still feel like I have a lot of basketball left in me and can add value to any team. I’m so appreciative to the Sharks organisation for the opportunity and am looking forward to getting back to playing. The roster so far looks strong and with the familiarity and so many guys returning, we will be able to have a positive start.”
Callum averaged 11.1 pts 3.8 reb and 3.6 ast across all competitions last season and set a season high of 26 points against the Plymouth Raiders back in March. The Mancunian is looking forward to a fresh start in Sheffield but already has something in common with Head Coach Atiba Lyons as they are both products of Pace University in Manhattan, New York.
“It’s great to have another Pace ‘Setter’ on the team! Callum is valuable asset at the point guard position, making us much deeper at that spot alongside Mackey McKnight. He comes from a basketball family, his drive and experience will improve us overall as I continue to build out the rest of the roster.”
