British Basketball League Regular Season

Who’s up for another Sheffield double-header? Well you’re in luck this weekend when the B. Braun Sheffield Sharks play host to Cheshire Phoenix on Sunday at 3pm, followed at 6pm by the B. Braun Sheffield Hatters taking on Caledonia Gladiators. The ‘Nix are possibly the surprise package of the 2023-24 season so far, riding high in second place and currently defeating all-comers. The Sharks will be looking to defend ‘Fortress CMA’ where they are 6-1 for the campaign. Add in a top-class WBBL clash as well and another superb afternoon of South Yorkshire hoops awaits!

Ones To Watch

Laquincy Rideau – A huge triple-double for the guard as Leicester became the latest victims of the Nix last Sunday. Rideau finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for an index of 34 as the Riders were flamed by 87-83 in Ellesmere Port.

Ethan Chargois – Forward Chargois was hot off the offensive boards against Leicester, pulling down 6 on his way to an impressive double-double of 15 points with 11 rebounds as well as 2 steals and 2 blocks. Bettered his season averages of 12 points, 5.4 boards and 1.8 assists.

Maceo Jack – Cheshire’s free-scoring captain is performing no less effectively in his second season in the North West. Jack is contributing 17.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists thus far and led by example against the Riders with 14 from just 22 minutes on Sunday.

Aaryn Rai – The former NBL standout has transferred that title with ease over to the British Basketball League with his all-round talents. 15 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, a steal and a block played their part in the Leicester win and Rai averages 16.9 for the season so far.

Sunday will see the 134th meeting between the clubs with the Sharks holding the advantage with 81 wins against 52 losses.

Since Ben Thomas took over as Head Coach at Cheshire, the Sharks and Phoenix have met 25 times in all competitions combined with Coach Thomas holding a 15-10 advantage over Coach Lyons.

The most recent Sharks versus Cheshire game to go to overtime was on 15th December 2006 with the subsequent 65 clashes all being decided in regulation.

This season is the first time the Sharks have had 3 regular season games go to overtime before Christmas. The most overtime games in a season for the Sharks was 5 in the 2006-2007 season.
