35-year-old British centre Ochereobia joins the Sharks for the 2024-25 season after spending last season in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) with AS Douanes. Ochereobia graduated from Western Illinois where in his senior year in 2013-14 NCAA D1 he averaged 8.9 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.
Mike is looking forward to returning to UK basketball, “I’m really excited to join the Sharks and play in the UK again. Playing in the BAL was a new experience that I am very thankful for, but I’m happy to be home and be closer to my family whilst having the opportunity to play for this great club. I’ve seen the facilities here at the Sharks and the arena is fantastic. It’s great to see the facilities we now have in the UK and how much the game has grown since I started playing professionally in the UK”.
Sharks Head Coach Atiba Lyons spoke highly of Ochereobia, stating “Mike is someone who we have been looking to bring into the club. I really like his presence and skill around the basket, so we’re happy to have Mike onboard. He has great experience which will be valuable in the locker room. Mike’s a great guy and I’m looking forward to seeing him settle in with us when preseason gets underway”.
