Sharks Sign Makhi Mitchell

Sheffield, UK - 16th August, 2024 - The B. Braun Sheffield Sharks announce the signing of American forward Makhi Mitchell for the 2024-25 Super League Basketball season. 

The 24-year-old 6’10” forward joins the Sharks for his first season in professional basketball. Hailing from Maryland, USA, Mitchell last season averaged 8.6 points per game along with 4.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.4 blocks per game in NCAA Division 1 with the University of Arkansas. His standout performance last season came in the win against Texas A&M in February where he scored a season high 22 points, together with 13 rebounds and 4 blocks. 

Mitchell has also represented Rhode Island and Maryland in his collegiate career. Makhi had the opportunity to play with his twin, Makhel Mitchell, with the Arkansas Razorbacks when he made the move from Rhode Island from the 2022-23 season. 

Makhi is excited to join the Sharks, “I’m thrilled to have signed in Sheffield for my first season in professional basketball. I had a great conversation with the coaching staff and it made me very excited to sign with the Sharks. I really like their vision and our aims align so I’m looking forward to getting started. I’ve heard the fans in Sheffield really get behind the team so I can’t wait to experience that”.

Sharks Head Coach Atiba Lyons spoke of his enthusiasm with the signing of Mitchell, stating “Makhi is a powerful big man with great athleticism. I’m really excited to have a player of his calibre on the roster and believe he will make a big impact for us this season. I’m sure the fans in Sheffield will enjoy watching him play”.
