Bristol Flyers 62-61 DBL Sharks Sheffield (11-11, 38-30, 51-39)

Bristol Flyers claimed their first win of 2019 after ending a run of four defeats by beating DBL Sharks Sheffield. Andreas Kapoulas’ side came out on top in another dramatic finish at the SGS Wise to move to 8-5 with the Sharks dropping to 11-8 at the buzzer.

Leading scorers – Chris Taylor/Justin Gray/Fred Thomas 10 (Flyers) – Dirk Williams 21, Chris Alexander 17, Rob Marsden 12 (Sharks)

Turning point – The Flyers looked to have taken control after a low-scoring start and led by 12 ahead of the fourth. Sheffield rallied with a 7-0 opening and took the lead on back-to-back triples from Williams in the final minute. However, down 57-61, Gray scored the final five points including a tough three with 0.2 left on the clock for the win.

Key stat – Bristol’s bench outscored their opponents 24-2 with Chris Taylor playing a key role in snapping the Flyers’ early 3-point shooting woes and they take the win, despite being held to 33% from the floor.

Game hero(es) – Gray came up big down the stretch with the game-winner as part of a 5-0 close, while Taylor had an impact off the bench with Thomas joining the duo on 10 points.
