Big Welcome to Matthew Don as he agrees a deal to join BBL championship power house DBL Sharks Sheffield.

The 6’7 Power Forward joins from Spanish side Real Murcia a team who finished 12th in LEB Silver division posting 11.3 points and 7 rebounds per game averaging 26 minutes playing time.

London born Don left England to further his education in the USA whilst playing at NCAA 2 Cameron University AGGIES basketball team before moving to Spain to pursue a professional career.

“Matthew was an important part of our recruitment strategy this summer, his size, athleticism and speed gives the team a real threat both ends of the floor” commented coach Atiba Lyons, “I expect Matthew will become a fan favourite very soon, he has a great work ethic and is very efficient in everything he does.”

Don who represented his country at U20 level has harboured a dream to return to his homeland with his American girlfriend and establish a home life.  Whilst he had the opportunity to continue in Europe, the opportunity to play for Sheffield proved too strong a pull.

“I have spoken with friends and people around the game all of whom were extremely positive about the Sheffield organisation and their reputation for managing players” said Don “whilst I was growing up in London the Sharks were the team to beat and I just want help the club get right back to the top.”

The Sharks have been very keen to strengthen the squad with British talent which has always been at the heart of the organisation and considered extremely important if you want to compete for honours.

“I’m very pleased that we have persuaded Matthew to join the Sharks in the face of stiff competition both at home and abroad” says Sarah Backovic “he’s been on our radar since leaving for the USA some years ago and we’re really excited by the impact we believe he will make to our team.”

Matthew Don joins returnees Captain Mike Tuck, Chris Alexander and Rob Marsden with negotiations continuing to complete the roster are progressing well.
