Super League Basketball Championship

A big weekend of Super League Basketball awaits the B. Braun Sheffield Sharks. First up is a Friday evening trip over the Pennines to Manchester Basketball for a ‘War of the Roses’ clash against our Lancastrian neighbours. The Sharks follow that up with a homecoming to the Canon Medical Arena when the in-form Bristol Flyers are in town on Sunday afternoon. Both opponents are competing in European basketball this season – both have talented rosters. Two scintillating encounters are on the cards!

Shark Bites

The home game on Sunday will see the Sharks take to their home court at the Canon Medical Arena for the 50th time, all official competitions included. They have recorded 37 wins and just 12 losses.

Bristol Flyers have visited the Canon Medical Arena 5 times and lost each time. Since the Sharks moved to the CMA, the clubs have met in a combined total of eleven games – 5 in South Yorkshire and 6 in South Gloucestershire with the home team winning in nine of the eleven games.

Dirk Williams 29 points at Cheshire on Sunday was the 33rd time that he has scored 20 or more in his 83 appearances for the Sharks. That total of 33 is matched exactly by his current team mates during their respective Sharks careers with Prentiss Nixon having scored 20+ 18 times, Rodney Chatman 9, Jordan Ratinho 5 and Rodney Glasgow 1.

The 209 point combined total between the Sharks and the Phoenix on Sunday was the highest aggregate in a Sharks game ending in regulation since 19th April 2009 at Worcester. The Sharks won that day 109-100 having lost to Worcester 5 months earlier, 22nd November 2008, by 100-109. In the Sharks 31 year history, only 19 of their games – all competitions included – have seen more than 209 points scored and 9 of those went to overtime.
