British Basketball League Regular Season

After their triumphant debut at a sold-out Canon Medical Arena last weekend, the B. Braun Sheffield Sharks gear up for the second game on their new home court this Sunday. In town are the Caledonia Gladiators, who take on the Sharks prior to a midweek trip to Sibiu in Romania for their first FIBA EuropeCup fixture. The Gladiators were successful in their first game in their new Playsport venue just like the Sharks were last Sunday. Who will come out on top this time?

Sunday – Sharks v Gladiators – Canon Medical Arena – 3.00pm

Tickets – Fanbase | Schedule (fanbaseclub.com)

Ones To Watch

Trent Buttrick – 6’ 9” forward who shot 36% from 3 point territory last season in North Macedonia with TFT Skopje. Was perfect from the line last Thursday against Surrey where he went to record a 15 point, 10 rebound double-double in the weekly Sky Sports game.

Fahro Alihodzic – 2023 returnee to the Scots who also contributed a double-double in the 86-79 win over the Scorchers. He made 5 of his 9 shots on the way to a very creditable 13 points, 12 rebounds, which also included 2 blocked shots.

Ian DuBose – Versatile combo guard who has valuable European experience in Germany with Kirchheim Knights and in Denmark with Naestved. Averaged 16.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and 5.1 assists during his Danish sojourn and is currently putting up 13.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists for the Glads.

Patrick Whelan – The former Leicester Riders and GB standout made the switch north of the border in the off-season and is demonstrating everything that steered him to international honours. That three point shooting range is profiting to the tune of 47.4% as well as a very useful 15.7 points per outing.

Shark Bites

The Sharks match up with the Caledonia Gladiators franchise for the 111th time on Sunday. In the previous 110 games against the Scots (previously known as Edinburgh Rocks, Scottish Rocks, Glasgow Rocks and now Caledonia Gladiators), the Sharks have recorded 71 wins in all competitions.

The 54 games played against each other in Sheffield have brought the Sharks success in 41 of them.

The game on Sunday comes just three days before the 25th anniversary of the first clash between the clubs which took place at Meadowbank Leisure Centre and saw the Sharks win by 100-75.

The Sharks have hit 10 three pointers in each of their 2 games. The last time the Sharks hit 10 or more three pointers in consecutive games was 10 at Glasgow on 20th December 2020 (won 96-78) and 3rd January 2021 at home to Plymouth where 11 were made in an 83-78 win.

SharkNation

Did you enjoy that one last Sunday? Do you want some more? Well now you know the drill, head up to the ticket link at the top of this page and let’s see if we can make the Canon Medical Arena even louder! The guys thrived on the atmosphere and you definitely spurred them on to that huge 30 point win. Like Newcastle, this Caledonia side is loaded for European basketball so we need our SharkNation sixth man to be loud and proud once again as we look to head up the standings in this regular season. You were amazing last week – and together we can be UNBEATABLE! It’s time to #FearTheFin!
